Dear Members,

My name is Brian Davidson and I am a Republican candidate for CU Regent At-large. I am a Colorado native and graduate of CU’s medical school. I currently serve as a chief resident physician at the CU Health Sciences Center. I also serve as a public member of the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners.

I am a conservative Republican and I believe that the University of Colorado needs a conservative member now more than ever. My primary goals if elected as CU Regent At-Large include:

  1. Tenure status only for responsible and deserving faculty --- No more Ward Churchill’s.
  2. Fiscal accountability and responsible spending.
  3. Affordable tuition for Colorado residents.
  4. Reducing administrative overhead - shifting resources into the classroom.
  5. Strong support for the new Fitzsimons\Health Sciences Center development.

I will bring a youthful, yet professional perspective to the Board of Regents and to Colorado’s elected political process.

I am a firm believer in the U.S. Constitution and the second amendment. The right to bear arms has been and will continue to be important to the freedom and safety of the citizens of our Nation. I am not familiar with every firearm law but I can say that I oppose laws that restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens to own, carry, or use firearms.

As a physician who works in an urban trauma center, I have cared for many patients with gunshot wounds. Some have died before my eyes and I have met many families of those who have died as a result of firearms. I firmly believe that harm is not the responsibility of the firearm used. The responsibility should lie with the individual who uses the firearm. Political leaders in our State and Country tend to omit this concept and blame firearms rather than people. Law-abiding citizens should not lose their Constitutional rights because a criminal uses a firearm while breaking the law. Criminals will gain access to firearms regardless of most laws. A citizen must be allowed to own and carry firearms to protect their family, property, and their own life.

As a CU Regent I cannot think of a time when I would be asked to create a policy regarding firearms. I can say that I respect the Constitution and believe in the rights of law-abiding citizens on the issue of firearms.

I look forward to meeting with you at your monthly meeting on May 11th. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Brian M. Davidson, M.D.
