December 13, 2001: Our annual holiday dinner was attended by about 80 members and guests. PPFC provided the main course consisting of ham, roast pork, turkey, and roast beef. Appreciation plaques were presented to Chuck Baker, host of On the Carpet on HotTalk 1460 AM for his support of our rights; Ralph Whittaker, owner of OurPeak Internet Service, who hosts the PPFC Web site without charge; and Paul Paradis, the PPFC President, for his leadership over the years. August 9, 2001: What should gun owners do in the 2002 elections: Part I. State Senator Andy McElhany, State Representative Keith King, Senior Policy Analysis Jason Hopfer, and NRA Lobbyist Mary Anne Bradfield presented the "mechanics" of how the state legislature works and how a bill is introduced, debated, passed or fails, and how much power the majority party has in the process.

July 12, 2001: El Paso County Sheriff John Anderson briefed us on the status of the concealed carry program. He also introduced the new Undersheriff, Terry Maketa, who help setup the program and may be a candidate for sheriff in 2002.

June 14, 2001: Co-Founder of the Tyranny Response Team, owner of Paladin Arms, and Libertarian candidate for Colorado governor, Bob Glass spoke about the loss of our rights.

May 10, 2001: Colorado Lieutenant Governor Joe Rogers, State Representative Dave Schultheis, El Paso County
Commissioner Duncan Bremmer, and El Paso County Treasurer Ken Kile joined about 100 PPFC members and guests as the Colorado Springs
Friends of NRA Committee presented a scholarship to the NRA Whittington Center Adventure Camp to Wasson High School junior Kimberly
Olson. Kim will be attending the 2-week Adventure Camp this July. PPFC President Paul Paradis also presented Kim with a check for $250 from the PPFC
members to help pay expenses. NRA Field Representative Dave Lee was also on hand to congratulate Kim. Her parents and grandparents were also present. CSPD Commander Bob Ownbey and Sgt Martin were there to represented the Colorado Springs Police Department where Kim is a Police Cadet. After the presentations, we broke for cake and refreshments.
After the break, BATF Resident Agent-in-Charge Rich Marianos, gave us an update on some gun cases.
We also presented Denver Attorney James Bardwell a plaque for his work in helping us fight Amendment 22 (the gun show background checks) last year. |

April 12, 2001: Colorado Governor Bill Owens' Deputy Chief of Staff, Sean Tonner, and
Senior Policy Analyst for Firearms Issues, Jason Hopfer, spoke to the PPFC membership on Governor Owens'
firearms policies. They fielded many tough questions from the membership. They stated the Governor supports
range development along the front range, no mandatory firearm storage, and a statewide concealed carry law.
Joining us at the meeting were Colorado State Senators Doug Lamborn and Mark Hillman, El Paso County Commissioner Tom Huffman,
El Paso County Treasurer Ken Kile, Colorado Springs City Councilman-elect Charles Wingate, and NRA Lobbyist Mary Anne Bradfield.

March 8, 2001: Law Enforcement Instructor and PPFC Member Dave Willard gave an impressive presentation on home defense tactics and NRA Instructor, top woman shooter, and PPFC member Amy Hoffman also gave a great presentation on woman's concerns in selecting and using a firearm.

February 8, 2001:Colorado State Senator Doug Lamborn gave an update on firearm bills currently in the State Legislature. Since the Democrats control the Senate, he doesn't expect any pro-gun bills to get out of committee nor does he expect any anti-gun bills to get out of the House. PPFC member and Law Enforcement Firearm Instructor Dave Willard gave a great presentation on home defense tactics. Due to the bad weather, Dave was asked to continue his presentation at the next meeting on March 8th. The following Colorado Springs City Council members attended and gave a few minutes on their campaign: Charles Wingate (District 2), Sallie Clark (District 3), Margaret Radford (District 4), and Tim Pleasant (At-Large).

January 11, 2001: PPFC and Colorado Springs Muzzle Loaders member Doug Davis gave a great presentation on the history of firearms and the sport of muzzle loading.
